Buying Cinnamon
There was so much to do. Before I was going to fly down and look at the boat I wanted to get a marine surveyor to have a look at the boat to assess if the boat was solid and worth the asking price. I found a very nice guy in Sausalito on the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors website, Odus E. Hayes. Odus was available to give the boat a going over while she was in her berth at the marina at Richardson Bay and got back to me the same day with an initial report that in his opinion the boat was worth well more than the asking price and I would be getting a bargain.
In order to finish the survey we needed to get a survey lift at a boat yard and also needed to arrange a truck to haul her up to Portland. I google “Sausalito boat yard” and came up with Anderson’s Boat Yard. What a great find. These guys are real pro’s. Jim, the yard manager took me under his wing and I just can’t say enough about the service I got there. Jim advised me on all the things I would need to do to get the boat ready to be shipped and what I could do to save labor hours and cost at the yard. They had a set price for lifting, pressure washing and loading the boat. The cost actually came in less than I expected considering the time and care Anderson’s employees took getting the mast down and ready for shipping.
Jim put me in touch with an independent trucker and boat hauler, Larry Conrad, Conrad Trucking in Santa Rosa, California at 707-485-0703. Larry had an opening in his schedule the next week. Now one last duck to get in a row, getting the boat unloaded in Portland when Larry arrived with it.
I called Rocky Point Marina in Portland and their boat yard was able to accommodated the boat on short notice, so back around the telephone loop once more to confirm with everybody. Anderson’s would lift the boat Wednesday, Odus would meet us at the boat yard to finish the survey, if the bottom survey passed Larry would pick the boat up Friday and deliver to Portland on the next Monday morning.
