1967 Chinook 34 Sailboat – Cinnamon
“One of the prettiest boats sailing on the Columbia River in Portland, Oregon.” The original Columbia River day sailer and heavy displacement cruising yacht. Reminiscent of the early 1900’s vintage America’s Cup racers this Vigilant Class, Frederick Geiger design, is credited with being the first production fiberglass yacht.
Built for the original owner in the San Fransisco Bay area she is one of the few Chinook’s built to be a modified full keel boat rather than a center board, as noted on the original factory invoice. Hull number 68 of 70 she is one of the “newest” Chinooks. Her hull was laid up in 1967, but she was not commissioned until 1992 and has been upgraded continually by all previous owners.
We purchased her and trucked her home to Portland in 2008 and have been upgrading her since. She is turn key ready to cruise. We sail her at least weekly, more if we can, and we’ve logged well over a thousand hours sailing her in the last two years and spent many a relaxing weekend on the boat.
